Walter Thompson and Cynthia Howard went to Kamuge Prison
today after lunch. It was a prison of 103 men and women. We found
it very interesting that the government prisons welcomed Christian missionaries
to evangelize. The wardens of the prisons that we visit say that they
feel visits from these Christian groups really help with the morale and
attitude of the prisoners. The warden is a Christian and had taught all
the prisoners Christian songs that they sang for us when we arrived.
Cynthia gave her testimony and Walter gave a sermon on the
story of Zacheaus. They had a wonderful group of men who came forward to
trust Jesus Christ as their Savior. Each time we go to visit a prison we
leave gifts of necessity items such as soap, blankets, mats to sleep on and
other supplies. As most places in Uganda, the prisons and prisoners are
threadbare and very run down so these gifts are very appreciated.
